Takk fyrir, Ísland

I've never before felt this moved by a place or a country. Iceland truly changed my perspective on so many things and I can't begin to describe how amazing my week there was. Before coming back, I was trying to find the perfect souvenir - a viking helmet, a chunk of lava rock... But all I ended up buying was Of Monsters And Men's newest album. They're an Icelandic band who I saw play in Reykjavík Downtown Hostel (where we were staying) for the Iceland Airwaves music festival. They were by far my favourite act and the venue was so intimate and packed with people. I fell in love with their newest single, Little Talks. The next day on the way back from the Blue Lagoon Chill Party after having had the time of my life, Little Talks came on the radio of the Reykjavík Excursions coach bus. We were driving past miles and miles of untouched lava fields; black rocks with mustard yellow moss and volcanos and mountains lining the horizon. That moment moved me so much - the song, the landscape and the mere thought of being in such a preserved country with such a preserved culture, together created one of the most beautiful moments I've experienced. I think it will be a while before I can listen to that song without my eyes watering.

So in the end, music was the perfect souvenir to bring back with me, as it evokes more memories than any lava chunk would. Takk fyrir, Ísland. See you same time, next year. <3
